risky tacos

So on Friday I went to this taco place in SA, 10 minutes down the street from home. It was around 1am, but it’s open 24 hours, which is always cool, since that’s not too common around here. Anyway, the place was filled with Mexicans, and there were quite a few people in line too. We were a crowd of Asians with one white guy, and everyone was staring at us. I now know what white people feel like when they come into an Asian restaurant. Anyway, while I was in line, there was only one security guard, but another one came in and starting talking to each other. The conversation went something like this:

Security guard #1: Everything ok tonight?
SG#2: Yeah, pretty quiet, so far.
SG#1: Oh, so, nothing like last week, then, huh?
SG#2: Oh, no way.
SG#1: Yeah, that was crazy. We gotta watch out for that.

Turns out there was some gang-related attacks a week ago. Not the kind of words you want to hear, but I went there the next day for lunch, too. It’s constantly busy. 30 minutes after we got there, hordes of Mexicans came in (nothing against them, I’m just reporting the facts). The food isn’t the best, but conveniently close, open all day/night, and really quick. If you’re into Beef Head or Tongue burritos/tacos, you should check it out (I didn’t). There are others I’m going to check out soon, but they are a bit deeper into the heart of SA. I’m torn between going during the day when it’s safe and going at night when the food always tastes better, even though I’m risking death.
